Matteo Berrettini has been knocked out of the US Open. The Italian lost to Argentina's Mariano Navone in the second round, according to Corriere della Sera.

Navone, who has been a surprise package at the tournament, continued his impressive run by defeating Berrettini. The result means Berrettini's campaign in New York is over earlier than he would have hoped.

Corriere della Sera reports that Navone once again produced a standout performance. The Argentine had already turned heads earlier in the tournament, and this win over Berrettini adds another notable name to his list of victories at Flushing Meadows.

The loss was part of a difficult day for Italian tennis at the US Open. Alongside Berrettini, other Italian players also exited the competition. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sportmediaset, both Passaro and Guerrieri were eliminated on the same day.

There was also a significant upset elsewhere in the draw. La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted that Jodar, a player expected to go deep, was beaten by an opponent named Bu. That result was described as surprising given Jodar's form coming into the match.

Berrettini's exit leaves Italian hopes in the men's singles draw resting on other players. The second-round defeat means he will now turn his attention to the rest of the hard-court season and upcoming tournaments.

Navone, meanwhile, advances to the third round with growing confidence. His performances so far suggest he could be a difficult opponent for whoever faces him next.

The focus now shifts to the remaining Italian players still competing in New York, as they look to carry the flag further in the tournament.
